While I love computers and don’t think that using digital techniques makes your work any less or more “real”, i’m pretty impressed that they achieved this in-camera with an actual kaleidoscope. There’s something to be said for giving up the finest levels of control and still leaving some things to chance - something that’s pretty hard to do in animation and post-effects.
